Maintenance sheet: Palm tree Veitchia Meriillii

The Adonidia, also called Christmas Palm because their small red fruits manage to mature at the end of the year, is a majestic indoor palm (in our Parisian latitudes... minimum temperature 15°C) A super beautiful plant! Slender, its shape requires a certain height under the ceiling but guarantees you the wow effect. The claw of its trunk is worthy of a true work of plant art. It is also an easy-care plant .

🖋 Latin name: Veitchia (adonidia) merrillii

💧 Watering: 2 liters per week, twice less in winter. It likes humidity , spray its leaves using our fogger .

☀️ Exhibition: bright space. It does not resist the cold. As soon as the temperature is mild, you can take your Adonidia merrillii out, which can take advantage of the sun and the summer rains to boost its growth. Place it in partial shade at first, then gradually accustom it to the summer sun.

🌱 Repotting: if you have just received your Veitchia , wait a year before repotting it, so that it gets used to its new environment. Repot it in a pierced pot then water abundantly. Regarding the soil, the top of the top is: a mixture composed of 50% loam, 25% heather or humus, 25% coarse sand or perlite. Mix everything well to homogenize the different elements.

🍬 Fertilizer: It appreciates a supply of liquid fertilizer for green plants or palm trees, fertilizers generally more dosed in nitrogen than other elements. A monthly nutritious watering in spring-summer gives it vitality and new, magnificent dark green leaves.

🐛 Disease and insects: Only scale insects can disturb the good growth of your palm tree, although these are not a great annoyance for the Veitchia . As a precaution and if you see any (often on the hidden side/back of the fins), spray an ecological fatty mixture composed of:

• a liter of lukewarm water,
• 1 tablespoon of cooking oil,
• a drop of dishwashing liquid (shake well to emulsify oil and warm water).

Spray the attacked areas, and pour the rest of this mixture directly into the pot. Mealybugs are white, mealy-shelled insects, treating them with a greasy product will suffocate them. Preferably in the evening.
